Zircon Rough Lot — Mud Tank, NT

Zircon from the Mud Tank carbonatite in the Harts Range region, north-east of Alice Springs. A carbonatite is a rare, carbonate-rich igneous rock, and Mud Tank crystallised about 731 million years ago. Its zircons are used by laboratories worldwide as reference material for U–Pb dating and other geochemical analyses.
