Victoria

0 specimens

Mineral and gold specimens from across Victoria. The state is best known for gold, formed in quartz reefs cutting folded sandstone and shale and weathered out into rich alluvial and deep-lead deposits. Its goldfields stretch well beyond Bendigo and Ballarat, through the north-east and High Country to Walhalla in Gippsland. The north-east also produced most of Victoria's tin, with sapphire and zircon in the same gravels, while the western volcanic plains add zeolites and other basalt-hosted minerals.
