Spessartine in Galena — Broken Hill, NSW

Spessartine garnet in galena from Broken Hill, NSW. Small red-brown garnets sit in grey, granular galena. Garnet set in galena is one of Broken Hill's signature associations, and very few localities anywhere produce the pairing. Spessartine is sometimes sold under its older name, spessartite.

Galena is a lead mineral, so wash your hands after handling and keep it away from kids and pets.
