Magnetite Lot — Mud Tank, NT

Seven pieces of magnetite from Mud Tank, in the Harts Range region north-east of Alice Springs.

Mud Tank is a carbonatite, a rare carbonate-rich igneous rock, that crystallised about 731 million years ago. Its distinctive zircon crystals are used by laboratories worldwide as reference materials for U–Pb geochronology and other geochemical analyses.
