Description
A stout dravite crystal section from Yinnietharra Station in the Upper Gascoyne, Western Australia, with a clear six-sided outline. Dark brown, with paler included patches and flecks of glittering mica.
Dravite is the magnesium-rich member of the tourmaline group, and Yinnietharra is known worldwide for its large, well-formed brown crystals. They grow in mica-rich schist on Morrissey Hill, in the Proterozoic rocks of the Gascoyne Province.
