Atacamite with Malachite — Mount Gunson, SA

Sparkling dark green atacamite with paler green crusts on red-brown ironstone, from the Mount Gunson copper mines at Pernatty Lagoon, South Australia. Atacamite is a copper chloride that forms when copper ore weathers in dry, salty conditions, and malachite is its most common companion here. The mine closed in 1985.
