Archean — Over 2.5 Billion Years

Rocks and minerals more than 2.5 billion years old. In Australia they are found mainly in the Yilgarn and Pilbara cratons of Western Australia. These rocks formed before the atmosphere held free oxygen, on a planet with no land plants and no complex life.
